Round Hill Pines Beach & Marina has closed for the season. Its website lists a reopening date of May 1, 2027. On the other side of Highway 50, the stretch around the Safeway at 212 Elks Point Road has added a Pilates studio and a coffee shop since April, and the largest of Lagree Tahoe's three studios is set to open there on October 19. The highway connecting them has just been repaved. Those changes make the highway side the place where Round Hill's off-season happens this year.
The lakeside resort runs on a federal calendar
Round Hill Pines sits at 300 Highway 50 in Zephyr Cove. It's National Forest land, and a private concessionaire runs it under a Forest Service special-use permit. The resort lists Beach Bums, the Rum Bar, and marina rentals as its amenities. The marina page describes a May through September season, with rentals booked through Action Watersports. By late October, all of that is closed.
What happens to the buildings is a longer question. On March 23, 2026, the Forest Service asked for public input on a proposal for the Round Hill Pines Resort Historic Cabin District. It would demolish nine aging buildings: a guest house, the dining hall, the caretaker's house, garage and laundry facilities, a boiler house, the gardener's house, and three employee cottages. Five buildings, including the grand lodge, would be kept for adaptive reuse. The National Historic Preservation Act requires federal agencies to consider feasible alternatives before they demolish historic structures. That's why the agency asked for comments within 30 days of the announcement.
The buildings are older than most of what surrounds them. In the 1920s, Norman DeVaux built the property as his private summer estate. He was a cross-country cyclist who went on to become a major West Coast automobile distributor and helped establish Chevrolet and Durant Motors. He built the lodge, guest cabins, and service buildings, and more structures went up after the estate changed hands in 1931. In 1951 the property became a commercial resort with motel units. It closed in 1969 over sewage problems. The Forest Service acquired the site in 1985, along with the beach, the marina, and 28 buildings. The March release laid out a proposal and asked for comments; it did not announce a final decision. When the resort reopens next May, which buildings still stand around it will depend on how the Forest Service resolves that proposal.
The highway side added three reasons to stop
Meanwhile, the commercial strip has been filling in, and the new tenants are businesses people visit on a weekly schedule, not a summer one.
In April, the Tahoe Chamber held a blue-ribbon cutting for Mind Body Pilates's new Round Hill studio, which the Tahoe Daily Tribune reported on April 14. The Tribune placed it near the existing Mind Body Physical Therapy office. The studio's own site sends Pilates clients to 100 McFaul Way, Suite F, Zephyr Cove.
On May 10, Adventure Coffee Company soft-opened at 605 Highway 50 in the space Toast used to occupy, according to the Tribune.
The biggest addition is arriving now. Lagree Tahoe owners Kara Pendl and Lexi Heinzer started in Incline Village and then opened in Truckee. Their third studio, branded Après Club, is next to the Safeway off Highway 50. Per the Tribune's October 7 report, it's their largest studio so far. The paper lists the address as 183 Highway 50, Suite C, and uses a Glenbrook dateline, though the studio markets itself as its Zephyr Cove location. On the Lagree Tahoe schedule page, the studio set its opening for Monday, October 19, with free community classes to start. Booking opened before the doors did.
Heinzer told the Tribune the location was chosen with clients from Glenbrook and Carson in mind. She also pointed to the drive:
"We know how much construction and traffic can be on the East Shore."
That's from the Tahoe Daily Tribune. In the same article, Pendl described the space as having plenty of natural light. The paper noted that the location lets clients get their shopping and workouts done in one place.
The anchors that were already there are still open. Safeway's store page lists the Elks Point Road location as open 24 hours. Harumi Sushi still takes orders at 212 Elks Point Road. Los Mexicanos still posts current hours on its own site.

What a weekday off-season morning can include now
Before this spring, the highway side was mainly for errands. Here's what one late-October morning there could look like, using only places on the list above:
- Coffee at Adventure Coffee Company, 605 Highway 50.
- A Lagree class at Après Club, booked through the online schedule, or a Pilates session at 100 McFaul Way.
- Groceries at the Safeway next door to Après Club, open at any hour.
- A takeout order from Harumi Sushi on the way home, from the same Elks Point Road address.
Before May, step one wasn't available here, and the Lagree half of step two is only now arriving. Pendl and Heinzer's comment about East Shore traffic explains why that matters. Their Glenbrook and Carson clients were driving to Incline Village for class. Now that drive ends at Round Hill.
The drive between them has been repaved
NDOT's U.S. 50 resurfacing has shaped every East Shore drive for two summers, and the paving is now complete. In the 2025 season, crews paved five and a half miles from the Stateline casino corridor to just south of Cave Rock. The 2026 season covered more than seven more miles, plus curb, gutter, drainage, barrier, and guardrail work. NDOT's April release for this final season named a one-mile Round Hill to Zephyr Cove section and kept at least one lane open in each direction.
NDOT's project page now says paving operations are complete. Traffic control stays in place while crews finish signs and striping, paint barrier rails, and clean up staging areas. The 35 mph limit still applies in all work zones, and NDOT expects minimal delays for the rest of the project. For anyone driving between the plaza and Elk Point or Zephyr Cove, the slowdowns from the past two summers are mostly over. Until the cones come down, the work-zone speed limit still applies.
The next project here is a path
Paving was the last big road project. The next one planned for this stretch is for people walking and biking. The Tahoe Transportation District has proposed Phase 1A of the Stateline-to-Stateline Bikeway. It would start at Stateline Avenue and Lake Parkway and run along the lake side of U.S. 50 to 4-H Camp Road and the existing Laura Drive trail, with a sidewalk heading toward Kingsbury Grade. TTD's schedule put planning in 2025 and design in 2025 and 2026, and construction depends on funding. The project has no construction date yet. Once it's built, it would connect the casino corridor to the trail network already reaching toward Round Hill.
The shoreline buildings wait on the Forest Service, the 35 mph signs on NDOT's cleanup crews, and the bikeway on funding. For the next six months, the closest coffee, workouts, groceries, and takeout are all around the Safeway at 212 Elks Point Road.
